Meet Our Directors

Meridian Ship Management is a family-owned maritime enterprise, built on decades of hands-on experience in ship repair, ship ownership, and vessel management.

 

The foundation of the group was laid by Somy George, a Mechanical Engineer by profession, who began his career at Cochin Shipyard, Kerala, before gaining extensive industry exposure across Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. In 2005, he established Gama Ship Repair LLC, which today stands as one of the leading ship repair yards in Dubai, operating with over 100 skilled employees and a 30,000 sq. ft. facility.

 

In February 2019, his son George Pittappillil joined the business, bringing a modern, structured approach to operations. An MBA graduate, George combines over seven years of ship repair experience with nearly four years of ship management and operational expertise. Since March 2022, the group has expanded into ship ownership and ship management. Meridian Ship Management founded in 2026 is the newest management arm of the group.

 

Both Somy George and George Pittappillil are certified Designated Persons Ashore (DPA), Company Security Officers (CSO), and Internal Auditors for ISM, ISPS, and MLC, with all certifications issued by DNV. This ensures that compliance, safety, and governance are embedded at the highest level of management.

 

The family’s involvement extends beyond leadership, with Mrs. Biju Somy and Mrs. Annmary George actively serving as Admin and HR Directors, ensuring strong organizational governance and people-focused management.

 

While Meridian Ship Management is a newly established company, the people behind it bring decades of proven maritime expertise, operational knowledge, and regulatory understanding. This blend of experience, continuity, and family-driven values allows us to deliver reliable, transparent, and compliant ship management solutions with confidence.
